The Clerk has 5 main responsibilities:
Probate Judge
The Clerk holds exclusive original jurisdiction over matters relating to wills & estates. The Clerk also presides over adoptions, competency, power of attorney, foreclosures, and more!
The Clerk serves as judge of probate over 46 types of proceedings.​
Administrator
The Clerk is charged with performing multiple administerial acts such as issuing summons, setting up the court file, docketing & indexing case files, and issuing subpoenas.
Record Keeper
The Clerk is solely responsible for the integrity of every case filed. This includes filing, processing, indexing, and maintaining all lawsuits, civil and criminal actions, proceedings, or other matters before the court.
Comptroller
The Clerk is responsible for receiving, investing, and disbursing millions of dollars each year that come from court fees, traffic citations, fines, etc.
Leader
The Clerk supervises and manages assistant clerks, deputy clerks, and other employees in the criminal, civil, juvenile, special proceedings, estates, and bookkeeping offices.
